Lecture : Tribology (MAE644)

Introduction

Tribology means rubbing and sliding, and defined as the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion and related subjects. It includes a field of friction, lubrication, and wear.

In this course, basic concepts and application of tribology are covered to make students understand tribology and have an ability to apply it. For this, we learn geometric perperties and physical behavior of surface, contact mechanism, and friction and wear.

Subjects

Surface and contact theory
Adhesion and friction
Mechanism of wear
Lubrication
Fluid film lubrication
Elastohydrodynamic and boundary lubrication
